[Read by Carly Robins and Graham Hamilton]

Bestselling author of The Good Girl, Mary Kubica is back with another exhilarating thriller as a widow's pursuit of the truth leads her to the darkest corners of the psyche.

''The bad man, Daddy. The bad man is after us.''

Clara Solberg's world shatters when her husband and their four-year-old daughter are in a car crash, killing Nick while Maisie is remarkably unharmed. The crash is ruled an accident until the coming days, when Maisie starts having night terrors that make Clara question what really happened on that fateful afternoon.

Tormented by grief and her obsession that Nick's death was far more than just an accident, Clara is plunged into a desperate hunt for the truth. Who would have wanted Nick dead? And, more important, why? Clara will stop at nothing to find out -- and the truth is only the beginning of this twisted tale of secrets and deceit.

Told in the alternating perspectives of Clara's investigation and Nick's last months leading up to the crash, master of suspense Mary Kubica weaves her most chilling thriller to date -- one that explores the dark recesses of a mind plagued by grief and shows that some secrets might be better left buried.

I've liked her other books and actually pre-ordered this one based on the description. But thought this book was truly disappointing. It was an entire book of a woman's rambling and irrational thoughts, that were supported by no evidence whatsoever. I was tired of listening to the main character's lunatic ravings as she suspected every single person she knew. No spoiler alert, but the ending was as disappointing as the rest of the book. If I had the option to return this book I would have. This is actually the first Amazon review I've written, even though I've downloaded north of 80 books on my kindle, because I felt this strongly that this book is not worth your time, and a drastic letdown from her previous books. It didn't read like a novel with a plot, it read like the erratic thoughts of someone's diary.

I've been waiting anxiously for this book.

I've been a huge fan of Mary Kubica and loved all her books with the exception of Pretty Baby. This book was amazing. It was a slow start, but unlike other readers, this doesn't bother me. The characters and suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. There weren't as many twists as I expected there would be but the story, and the ending was satisfying.

Highly Recommended Book! Now to wait for the next one.

:: 3.5 Pretty Little Stars ::
By Pretty Little Book Reviews
Okay. This book is hard for me to rate because while I did like it, it was much different than I had anticipated when I purchased it. First and foremost, this book is described as a psychological suspense novel. True, it is suspenseful. Readers don't know "who-dun-it" or if there was really anything sinister going on. However, once we get to the end the genre seems... not quite right? For many, this will please you. I sure as hell liked how everything turned out. But, a lot of people are not going to like the ending. I really can't say much more about that otherwise the entire story would be ruined. So just be warned that this roller-coaster of a book is going to turn out much different than you anticipate when going in.

In terms of the story line, I liked it. I liked how the author used a lot of suspense leading up to the truth and then throwing her readers a major curve ball. This was an unexpected surprise that left me feeling satisfied, a little sad, but overall pleased because it's unique. The buildup though is rather dull, and I found that much of the story was pretty depressing. This has to do with the heroine's husbands death and while the subject matter would be depressing for many, it does come off a bit boring. Especially because the entire story is within the heroine's POV and we constantly hear about her feelings, her lack of interest in anything, and so forth.

The characters are well written and make sense for the overall story, but readers will have a hard time connecting until everything comes together. And then BAM. The book is over. This can ultimately leave many feeling dissatisfied. I however, didn't mind it. Although I wish things were a bit brighter and less depressing as a whole.

The ending: I have seen many reviews saying that HATED the ending. For me though, I liked it. It's unique, unexpected, and satisfying. Sure, it becomes a bit rushed towards the end and there are a few loopholes that will amp readers up and then shut them right down, BUT, the atmosphere is perfect.

With that, my rating has fluctuated between 3 and 4 stars so I am going to give it 3.5 stars and round it to 4 because I was engrossed in the story. I would recommend it to those who like twisty psychological novels of suspense, but I am also going to warn readers to expect the unexpected.
